The Arithmetic of Belief
This is one of the most important sections of this site. It covers the growth and survival of memes in the modern world, a topic which is far more complex than other writers would have you believe.
Of course, we all know that memes spread exponentially. Except they don't. Well, not for long, anyway. And is it better to infect a lot of people each time, or a few people far more quickly. What happens if you start with more carriers? And what about defection?
We start this section looking at exponential growth, and then move on to the other questions we asked, and then finally look at these effects with a practical example.
